Talbina, the food of the Prophets that mends the inside quietly
What is Talbina?
It's not just a barley soup.. but a prophetic recipe, and a golden blend of wisdom and science, made from whole barley flour slowly boiled, served warm.. but it works deeply, and mends what tiredness, stress, and poor nutrition have spoiled.
Food for the brain and eases sadness
The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, described it as something that "comforts the heart of the sick and takes away some of the sadness," and today we know scientifically that barley contains components that support serotonin, the happiness hormone, and reduces the neural inflammation linked to depression and anxiety. Meaning: Talbina isn't only nourishing.. but psychologically calming, and a renewer of mental clarity.
How does it work on easing sadness? (scientifically)
1. The gut-brain axis: The intestines aren't just a tube for digestion, but contain more than 100 million neurons, and produce more than 90% of the serotonin (the happiness hormone). Talbina feeds the beneficial bacteria (probiotics) through beta-glucan fibres, which enhances the balance of the microbiome. And this reflects on the chemistry of the brain, reduces the neural inflammation, and contributes to improving the mood, reducing stress, and raising the levels of the happiness hormones.
2. Lowering cortisol and balancing the stress response: Talbina contains magnesium and vitamin B6, two essential elements in reducing the body's response to psychological stress, through reducing the production of cortisol, and improving the activity of the neural receptors in the limbic system (responsible for emotions). The result? Easing anxiety episodes, improving sleep quality, and a deeper psychological balance.
3. Supporting the secretion of serotonin and dopamine: The barley fibres slow the absorption of sugar, which prevents sharp sugar fluctuations, and protects from the sudden drop in serotonin. The amino acids in barley like tryptophan take part in producing serotonin and dopamine, two neurotransmitters essential in psychological stability.
4. Reducing neural inflammation: Recent studies link chronic depression with an increase in the levels of inflammatory cytokines in the blood and brain. The polyphenol compounds and soluble fibres in Talbina reduce these inflammatory responses, which restores balance to the neural environment and improves the brain's response to positive stimuli.
Additional benefits of Talbina
- Regulates cholesterol levels (by binding the harmful fats with the fibres and expelling them with the waste)
- Suitable for diabetics (slows the absorption of glucose and reduces insulin resistance)
- Enhances the feeling of fullness and helps with weight loss in a healthy way
- Improves the absorption of minerals like iron and zinc, which benefits cases of anaemia
- Strengthens the immune system through supporting the beneficial bacteria in the gut
- Improves the functions of the liver thanks to its properties in reducing the toxic load resulting from the modern diet
How it works
Talbina contains "beta-glucan" fibres, smart fibres that dissolve inside the intestines and turn into a gel that slows the absorption of sugar, and creates a balance in the glucose and insulin. The result? Longer energy, deeper fullness, and a more stable mood.
It comforts the digestive system and cleans the colon
Unlike heavy foods, Talbina soothes the mucous membrane of the intestines, absorbs the waste and toxins, and helps clean the colon gently.. as if it "wipes the inside" and restores the natural bacterial balance.
It supports the heart and reduces cholesterol
The barley fibres bind the harmful cholesterol and prevent its absorption, which protects the arteries from hardening, and gradually eases the blood pressure.
Suitable for everyone
- Those who suffer from the colon or constipation
- Those who want to strengthen immunity, and improve the mood
- Those who follow a healthy diet or want a breakfast that fills without harm
- And those looking for a pure food.. that returns to the origin
In short, Talbina is a neural, psychological, and digestive food.. drawn from the Sunnah and documented by science.
